The Public Security Police (PSP) were called to a shooting this Wednesday near the Time Out Market, near Cais do Sodré, in Lisbon. The suspects are on the run.
The news was reported by Correio da Manhã and confirmed by Observador with the Lisbon Metropolitan Command.
There were no injuries resulting from the shooting. At this time, it is not yet possible to determine the cause of the shooting, and the motives remain unknown.
The management of Time Out Market Lisbon confirmed that an incident also occurred near the market with gunfire, but emphasized that it was not within its premises.
“According to reports from several employees and people who were at the scene, it was a fight between two groups, which culminated in a gunshot being fired into the ground,” the organization said in a statement, adding that “there were no injuries” resulting from this incident.
The noise, according to Time Out Market management, "naturally generated concern among people nearby." However, "police authorities were immediately present at the scene for some time, collecting statements and other information about the incident."
The entity also highlights that "Time Out Market Lisboa's activity immediately returned to normal, maintaining all safety standards for employees, visitors and shopkeepers" and recalls that "in eleven years of activity, there has never been a single accident of this kind inside the space, nor in the immediate vicinity - this was the first time and it was outside the space."
“The safety and well-being of those who visit us, more than four million people a year, is a priority,” he concludes.
